This epic journey is one of Nepal’s most renowned treks, taking you across some of the highest mountain passes in the world. Traversing three thrilling and exotic passes, ranging from 5,000m to 5,335m, makes this trek a true adventure. Majestic landscapes, towering peaks, dramatic ridgelines, and vibrant villages combine to create an unforgettable experience.
While the trek can be done in either direction, traveling from east to west (starting in Lukla) is often preferred for better acclimatization. This route takes you from Lukla to Dingboche, then to Chhukung, where you cross the 5,535m Kongma La Pass to reach Lobuche. From there, you continue to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar before tackling the 5,420m Cho La Pass to Gokyo. Finally, you’ll cross the 5,345m Renjo La to reach Thame, Namche, and eventually return to Lukla.

Itinerary
Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you’ll be welcomed by the Blissful Himalayas representative who will transfer you to your hotel. After checking in, you can relax and prepare for the adventure ahead. You’ll also receive an initial briefing about the trek.
Today, you’ll take a guided tour of Kathmandu’s most iconic sights, such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. These landmarks offer a rich cultural experience and give you insight into Nepal’s deep spiritual and historical heritage. After the sightseeing tour, you’ll meet with your guide for a pre-trek briefing, where you’ll go over the trek itinerary, gear check, and important safety tips, especially regarding high-altitude trekking and acclimatization.
You’ll take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla (2,840m), a small town located on a mountain ridge. After landing at one of the world’s most thrilling airports, you’ll begin your trek. The first leg takes you to Phakding (2,652m), a peaceful village located along the Dudh Kosi River. You’ll walk through beautiful forests and pass several traditional Sherpa villages on the way
Today’s trek takes you deeper into the Khumbu Valley to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa town in the region and the gateway to Everest. The trail is well-maintained, with a few uphill climbs and scenic views of the surrounding peaks. As you approach Namche, you’ll get your first glimpse of Everest (8,848m) in the distance. Namche Bazaar is a bustling market town with shops, lodges, and cafes, and a good place to stock up on supplies.
To help your body adjust to the higher altitude, today is an acclimatization day in Namche. You’ll take a short hike to the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. You can also explore the town, visit the Sherpa Museum, or take a leisurely walk around the area to help your body adjust.
From Namche, you’ll trek to Tengboche, famous for its Tengboche Monastery. The trail offers magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam, as well as colorful rhododendron forests and river valleys. Tengboche is a peaceful village, and the monastery here is one of the most important in the region. It’s a great place to learn about Sherpa culture and Buddhism.
The trail today continues to Dingboche, a charming village located in a beautiful alpine setting. As you trek higher into the valley, you’ll pass several small settlements and get your first real view of the towering peaks of the Everest Massif. Dingboche is a popular acclimatization stop with excellent views of Island Peak (6,189m) and Lhotse (8,516m).
Today is another acclimatization day. You can take a short hike up to Nangkartshang Hill (5,000m), where you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Makalu and Lhotse. It’s important to rest and hydrate, as proper acclimatization is key to the success of your trek
From Dingboche, you’ll trek to Chhukung, a small settlement nestled at the base of Island Peak. The trek offers views of Ama Dablam and Lhotse in the distance. Chhukung is a perfect spot to rest and acclimatize before crossing the challenging passes ahead.
Today is a challenging and exciting day as you cross the Kongma La Pass (5,535m), one of the highest passes on the trek. The ascent is steep, but the reward is stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu. After crossing the pass, you’ll descend to Lobuche (4,940m), a small settlement where you’ll rest for the night.
Today, you’ll reach your ultimate goal—Everest Base Camp (5,364m)! The trail takes you through rocky terrain, offering incredible views of the Khumbu Glacier. Once at Base Camp, you’ll soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the stunning view of the Khumbu Icefall. Afterward, you’ll descend to Gorak Shep (5,140m) for the night.
Early in the morning, you’ll hike up to Kala Patthar (5,554m), the best viewpoint for Everest and the surrounding peaks. After taking in the breathtaking views, you’ll descend to Dzonglha (4,830m), a small settlement near the base of Cho La Pass.
Today, you’ll cross the Cho La Pass (5,330m), a tough but rewarding section of the trek. After the challenging pass, the trail descends to the serene and picturesque Gokyo Lakes area. You’ll spend the night at Gokyo (4,720m), where you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings and stunning views of the lakes and surrounding mountains.
Another acclimatization day. You can explore the area around Gokyo Lakes or relax by the serene waters. This is an ideal time to rest and adjust to the altitude before heading up Gokyo Ri the next day
Visit the 5th Lake and hike up Gokyo Ri (5,360m) for panoramic views
You’ll embark on an exploration of the 5th Lake and ascend to Gokyo Ri (5,360m), a peak offering some of the best views in the region, including a panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu. This day provides excellent photo opportunities and a chance to experience the beauty of the Gokyo Valley.
After a morning trek, you’ll cross the Renjo La Pass (5,345m), another high-altitude pass that offers awe-inspiring views of the surrounding peaks. After crossing the pass, you’ll descend to Lhagen (4,560m), a small village where you’ll spend the night.
You’ll continue your descent to Thame (3,820m), a picturesque village famous for its Thame Monastery. This is a great place to learn more about the Sherpa culture and Buddhism.
From Thame, you’ll trek back to Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy some last views of the Everest region and rest after the long trek. You can also enjoy the shops and cafes in the town.
You’ll retrace your steps back to Lukla, where you’ll spend the night. This marks the end of your trekking journey, and you can relax after the challenging but rewarding days in the mountains.
After a final breakfast in Lukla, you’ll take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, where you can rest and reflect on the unforgettable adventure you’ve just experienced.
