Tsum Valley Trekking is renowned for its deep spiritual significance and is a favorite among pilgrims. Located in the northern region of Nepal, the Tsum Valley is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley. The name “Tsum” comes from the Tibetan word “Tsombo,” which means vivid or clear, reflecting the stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of the area.
The trekking route follows the Budi Gandaki River as it winds through wild, unexplored landscapes, inhabited primarily by the Gurung ethnic community. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy a refreshing cup of locally cultivated natural coffee and take a relaxing dip in the Tatopani hot springs, which provide a much-needed break from the intensity of the trek.
The Tsum Valley Trekking experience is deeply connected with the region’s spiritual and cultural heritage. The valley is dotted with gompas (Buddhist monasteries), chortens, and mani walls. Among these, the longest mani walls (over 250 kilometers) are found in Dzong and Phurpe. The valley is also home to historical sites associated with the great Buddhist Yogi Milarepa and Guru Padmasambhava, adding to its spiritual allure. The locals of Tsum Valley practice a deep respect for nature, and they do not slaughter animals, even for religious sacrifices, making it an environmentally conscious area.
Surrounded by the towering peaks of Buddha Himal and Himal Chuli to the west, Ganesh Himal to the south, and Sringi Himal to the north, the Tsum Valley Trekking offers trekkers both breathtaking natural beauty and an immersion into the unique culture of this remote region of Nepal.
