Upon arrival at Gonggar Airport, you will complete immigration formalities before being driven to Lhasa, located at an altitude of 3650m. The journey to the city takes around 45 minutes. To help your body adjust to the high altitude, be sure to drink plenty of fluids and take it easy for the day.
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a tour of Lhasa’s most iconic sites. Visit Sera Monastery, where you’ll gain a deeper understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. Next, explore Norbulingka, the summer retreat of the Dalai Lama, completed in 1965 and adorned with intricate Tibetan carvings and artwork. Finally, visit the Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Square, both vital centers of spiritual life and local culture in Lhasa.
Start your day with a visit to the majestic Potala Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site that dominates the skyline of Lhasa. As you explore the ancient chambers, you’ll be surrounded by stunning Tibetan murals and statues, showcasing the finest Tibetan art. You’ll also see the tombs of the eight Dalai Lamas. Afterward, visit Drepung Monastery, one of Tibet’s largest monasteries, where you can observe the daily rituals of monks and nuns, including their chanting and religious discourses.
Today, you’ll drive along the Friendship Highway and cross the Khamba La pass (4794m), where you can enjoy spectacular views of Yamdrok Tso Lake and the snow-capped peak of Nazin Kang Sa (7252m). Continuing the journey, you will reach Karo La pass (5045m), where a massive glacier cascades down the mountainside near the road. After passing through beautiful valleys and colorful Tibetan villages, you will arrive in the town of Gyantse.
In the morning, visit Gyantse Dzong, a 14th-century fortress that offers panoramic views of Gyantse and the surrounding Nyang Chu Valley.
