Detail Itinerary
Day 01: Kathmandu – Zangmu / Neyalam (3600m)
Depart from Kathmandu for a scenic drive of approximately 5 hours to Kodari, the Nepal-China border. From there, take a half-hour drive to Zhangmu, where you’ll complete the immigration formalities. Continue the journey to Neylam, following the path of the Bhote Koshi River through a deep valley adorned with cascading waterfalls.
Day 02: Neylam – Tingri / Lhatse (4050m) – 285km
Travel through the Neylam Pass (3800m), where you’ll have views of Jugal Himal. The drive continues via the Lalungla Pass (5050m), offering spectacular vistas of some of the highest peaks in the Himalayas: Mount Xixapangma (8013m), Mount Makalu (8464m), Mount Lhotse (8516m), Mount Cho Oyu (8201m), and the towering Mount Everest (8848m).
Day 03: Lhatse – Xigatse (3900m) – 183km
Continue your journey to Xigatse, home to the renowned Tashilhunpo Monastery, which serves as the seat of the Panchen Lama. Explore the monastery and enjoy the sights of this historic city.
Day 04: Xigatse – Gyantse (3950m) – 90km
In the morning, visit the Tashilhunpo Monastery and the Xigatse Bazaar, then drive for about 2 hours to Gyantse, a vibrant town steeped in history. Gyantse was once the capital of a small kingdom in the 15th century. Visit the Kumbum Chorten, built around 1400 AD, which became a major center for trade with British India.
Day 05: Gyantse – Lhasa (3650m) – 261km
Embark on an 8-hour drive to Lhasa, crossing two major passes: the Karo La Pass (5010m) and the Kamba La Pass (4794m). The route offers spectacular views of the Yamdrok Tso (Turquoise Lake) and the majestic mountains of Nozing Khang Sa (7223m) and Ralung (6236m). After passing the Kamba La, you will descend into the Lhasa Valley. Cross the Brahmaputra River before arriving in Lhasa, where you’ll check into your hotel. Your guide will reconfirm your onward flight details.
Day 06 & 07: Exploring Lhasa
Spend the next two days immersed in the wonders of Lhasa. Visit the majestic Potala Palace, the spiritual heart of Tibet, and the Jokhang Temple, a revered site for Tibetan Buddhists. Explore the surrounding Barkhor Market, a lively center of Tibetan culture. Additionally, visit Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery, both significant Tibetan Buddhist institutions with rich histories and stunning architecture.
Day 08: Lhasa – Kathmandu
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight back to Kathmandu. The flight from Lhasa to Kathmandu takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. During the journey, enjoy panoramic views of Yarlung Tsangpo River, Lake Yamdrok, and towering peaks such as Mount Kanchenjunga (8586m), Mount Makalu (8463m), and Mount Everest (8848m), weather permitting.
